Dan Keller – Guitar, Vocals

This quintet plays some the most stellar psychedelic roots reggae you will find! From Rochester, New York  this band is surprisingly very diverse. One of their albums was transformed into a country version of their songs and it still sounds as unique as their original version. These guys know how to mix it up which is what makes them stand out. Not only that, their lyrics prove to the world that they are not afraid to speak the truth about certain problems society is facing today.

Check out “Pockets” from their album “In These Times.” This song talks about the economic division going on in America. Misinformation is spread about the reality of war, politics and religion. Someone out there is making some type of profit as others suffer.

It’s a war of culture, politics, religion

Struggle of our soul. Nations rise, nations fall.

And they be filling up their pockets

oh, you sunk this one
and you’re swimmin’ in your desperation
oh, you’re slippin’ up
and you’re burnin’ every bridge that can save you

past where we’re from
and we’re movin’ up in this foundation
goodness will come
if you’re solid in this here creation

time’s gonna save you
no one’s gonna make you
don’t just be a setting sun
these times come and go
these times go and come

The Expanders

1780614_658135474228376_876026329_nYes! The Expanders, all the way from Los Angeles, California, has come a long way in the reggae scene. Started in 1999, these guys have stepped up and proven they are capable of engaging modern listeners to 60’s/70’s/80’s Jamaican music such as Ethiopians, Gladiators and Mighty Diamonds. They bring rare old school songs to their live shows as well as some originals. The lyrics on their originals sound like they are from an old, wise, respectable sailor giving advice to the youth of the nation. Some songs carry out messages that point out corruption going on in our society today as well as songs with a playful mood. Their trio harmonies are so smooth that it leaves smiles on everyone’s face. Not only do their voices make you feel like floating, but every band member puts on a smile so bright you can you won’t want to stop smiling yourself. Like I said, reggae music brings good vibes.

The Expanders recently turned Snow Beast into a dubbed out version called Dub Beast. Check it out. It’s also available on iTunes.

Ashes of Babylon

AOB

Ashes of Babylon is an eight piece band originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana but now are based in Austin, Texas. They have a unique style of roots reggae where they bring hip hop, r&b and funk all together. AoB has performed in Georgia, Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio and other cities in Louisiana. Their Caribbean vibes always bring dancing feet to their live shows. Their harmonies are spot on and the bouncy three horn piece adds to their catchy vibes. This band is unforgettable. Their energy is high and their sound is loud. I have been to many of their shows and every single time they finish the last song, the crowd asks for more. AoB never declines an encore.

They have recently released their third album so these guys will be on tour through out Texas including San Marcos, San Antonio, Chorpus Christi and Houston. For more tour dates check out their Facebook Page.

Check out this video live and direct in San Marcos, TX at Taxi’s Piano Bar.

540146_10150247860294990_262034836_nI  started listening to reggae almost two years ago and it is so addicting to the point where I’m searching for new and unheard reggae artists all the time. Each reggae artist has a unique characteristic in their music and this is why I have started this blog. I will show you many reggae artists and their messages they wish for others to hear. Reggae moves the soul and enhances the need of peace and I feel everyone should listen to what they have to say.I noticed that most reggae artists sing about certain topics such as war, corruption, the legalization of marijuana and the injustice of the people.

Not only will I be introducing the reggae scene, but I will be connecting current events with the topics these reggae artists sing about. Being up-to-date in your community is another way that unites people and that is what I’m about.
This blog is for anyone and everyone. To those who love reggae, love music and love life.
