Goodbye but not really…

I just want to say what a wonderful semester it has been. Though I’m sad my FDOM class is coming to an end, my blog however is not. My goal is to keep this blog active as possible and learn much more. In the past, I have always wanted to start my own blog but never got the time to but this class helped me get it going and I am grateful for that. I have learned that being creative and consistent with your work is very important to keep your readers hooked. I need to improve both those… and I shall! The reason why I have this blog is to introduce people to such a bright and positive genre. I want to share the happiness that this kind of music brings me. The world is tough out there and I know someone out there is looking for some type of motivation to keep them going and I hope my blog can do just that. For the future, I want to gain my skills in blogging so if there are other people needing help with their own, I can do just that. I would also love to produce films to promote the same message. As long as I put 110%, I know I’ll get there someday. But for now, I am going to keep on building my fundamentals and have fun with it.

Peace my good people. Have a lovely week!

Reggae Fest Attendees tune out the drama and tune in the music

Three days of nothing but reggae music filled the air at Butler Park last weekend. Austin, Texas celebrated its 21st year of the Austin Reggae Festival with a variety of food vendors and shops to those who came to the festival.

Usually held at Auditorium Shores, the festival had to change locations due to construction but is expected to be back next year.

Big- name bands such as Easy Star All Stars, Inner Circle, Rootz Underground along with local artists such as Don Chani came to share their love of reggae to unite everyone. Charlie’s Dub Corner, a sound system party organized by McPullish, attracted those who love both dub and reggae music.

“It’s [reggae is] something that brings everybody together, said Texas State student Kelsey Rivers. “You see people from all walks of life come together to listen to it.”

Austin Reggae Festival is known to be a safe and drama-free festival. Families come to merely listen to the music.

“The Reggae Fest is one of the most peaceful events Austin has ever seen”, said security guard Denny Fincher. “In the 16 years I’ve been doing it, we haven’t had a fight or any kind of thing you would expect to see at any kind of festival with this many people.”

Unfortunately, there was an incident that occurred on the first day of the festival where a volunteer of the Capital Food Bank was caught stealing more than $1,100. He was charged with a Class A misdemeanor for the act of theft.

This three- day festival helps raise money for the Capital Area Food Bank which helps feed hundreds of thousands of hungry families in Central Texas. Capital Area Food Bank raised $250,000 at last year’s Austin Reggae Fest. The festival is known as the largest donor to the food bank. They are still waiting to find how much was raised this year.

Next year’s Austin Reggae Fest will be held, drama free, at the Auditorium Shores Friday, April 17th through Sunday, April 19th. For more information visit their website.

Intertwine’s Non-existent App

If I were to have an actual app for my brand, it would be one to inform my readers about all different types of reggae bands throughout the world. My app would consist of reggae artist bios, tour dates, photos, videos and lyrics. It will also connect you to the band through other social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Soundcloud, Youtube, Vimeo and Pandora.

Here is a quick preview of how it would look like:

Chris O’Brian – Drums, Vocals
Dylan Savage – Guitar, Vocals
Dan Keller – Guitar, Vocals
Tony Gallicchio – Keys

This quintet plays some the most stellar psychedelic roots reggae you will find! From Rochester, New York  this band is surprisingly very diverse. One of their albums was transformed into a country version of their songs and it still sounds as unique as their original version. These guys know how to mix it up which is what makes them stand out. Not only that, their lyrics prove to the world that they are not afraid to speak the truth about certain problems society is facing today.

Check out “Pockets” from their album “In These Times.” This song talks about the economic division going on in America. Misinformation is spread about the reality of war, politics and religion. Someone out there is making some type of profit as others suffer.

It’s a war of culture, politics, religion

Struggle of our soul. Nations rise, nations fall.

And they be filling up their pockets

oh, you sunk this one
and you’re swimmin’ in your desperation
oh, you’re slippin’ up
and you’re burnin’ every bridge that can save you

past where we’re from
and we’re movin’ up in this foundation
goodness will come
if you’re solid in this here creation

time’s gonna save you
no one’s gonna make you
don’t just be a setting sun
these times come and go
these times go and come

The Expanders

1780614_658135474228376_876026329_nYes! The Expanders, all the way from Los Angeles, California, has come a long way in the reggae scene. Started in 1999, these guys have stepped up and proven they are capable of engaging modern listeners to 60’s/70’s/80’s Jamaican music such as Ethiopians, Gladiators and Mighty Diamonds. They bring rare old school songs to their live shows as well as some originals. The lyrics on their originals sound like they are from an old, wise, respectable sailor giving advice to the youth of the nation. Some songs carry out messages that point out corruption going on in our society today as well as songs with a playful mood. Their trio harmonies are so smooth that it leaves smiles on everyone’s face. Not only do their voices make you feel like floating, but every band member puts on a smile so bright you can you won’t want to stop smiling yourself. Like I said, reggae music brings good vibes.

The Expanders recently turned Snow Beast into a dubbed out version called Dub Beast. Check it out. It’s also available on iTunes.
